Second up of the apps that proved themselves during 2014
(read about the first one here) :
*Let Me Talk*
http://letmetalk.info/
Alternative and Augmented Communication tool; using pictures and photos, built in as well as user added, with the option to have them spoken out loud, that are selected and arranged to support or replace verbal communication.
A string of images can be created and then read out loud as well.
The Good
Apart from being an easily accessed and really simple tool to enable intentional communication, I use it to convey the notion of time as a linear progression by illustrating sequences of events, past as well as planned; and to support sound and object association. So much disability and dependency is reduced or removed when there is an enabling of understanding, conceiving, and conveying thoughts; opening up areas and activities central to an individual's experience of dignity, well being, and just being a person.
Export and import of image library is enabled and fairly simple, as is adding my own photos and pictures.
There are many other apps for Alternative and Augmented Communication; with more features that are neat and without the features I do not like listed below. However, even though I have the ability and time to learn and use the app, the one I want to communicate probably don't. There are situations when I need an AAC device to communicate with someone who may never before used any such device. Therefore, of those I have used this lasted because of the ease of use, the straight forward design and interface, and the speed. It has just enough to be both generally useful and possible to customize.
The Bad
It is a bit impractical to not be able to drag and drop pictures; between categories of images or when wanting to change the order or insert a new image somewhere in a string.
Also, to save a string I have to take a screenshot to circumvent that there are no options to store any created strings.
